Students may choose units from the following disciplines (subject to campus availability): communication computing digital journalism drama economics geography healthy development history literature mathematics media music philosophy politics and international relations psychology sociology study of religions theological studies visual arts Students may also take units that offer a specific pathway to the Bachelor of Education (Primary), or the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts. The Certificate in Liberal Studies prepares you for a wide choice of careers in areas such as government, industry, business, the creative arts and education. It is a non-award course that is offered on a fee-paying basis and is available to international students as a UniAccess-International program. A student who successfully completes four or more units in the Diploma in Liberal Studies may be awarded a Certificate in Liberal Studies.
Programme Structure A. Certificate in Liberal Studies, not as a Pathway to Initial Teacher Education Arts Elective Units may be chosen from units listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings for the Bachelor of Arts degree in the following subject areas subject to campus availability, unit limitations and provided that prerequisite requirements are met. Communication Computing Digital Journalism Drama Economics Geography Healthy Development History Literature Mathematics Media Music Philosophy Politics and International Relations Psychology Sociology Study of Religions Theological Studies Visual Arts Youth Work Students may also choose as Elective Units the following units from the Bachelor of International Development Studies: Introduction to International Development Studies Humanitarian Work and Development Aid B. Students Completing the Certificate in Liberal Studies as a Pathway to Initial Teacher Education i. Pathway to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) Core Units Exploring Literature Introduction to Mathematical Thinking Science in Our World Elective Units Students seeking a pathway to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) must select an Arts elective from an approved list of Electives, subject to campus availability. ii. Pathway to the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of ArtsCore units Our World: Community and Vulnerability Communicating and Interpreting Ideas
