The BS in applied computer science provides students with an education that targets the computing profession. Students will learn to use mathematics, science and economics, along with technological knowledge and skill in the application of programming languages and software processes, to design, analyze, implement and test software systems and applications.

The increasing scope of computer science means you have plenty of choice in a wide variety of highly specialized areas. With computer technologies playing an ever growing role in all aspects of modern life, you re likely to find your computer science skills in high demand across many different industries. These include: financial organizations, management consultancy firms, software houses, communications companies, data warehouses, multinational companies (IT-related, financial services and others), governmental agencies, universities and hospitals. However, unsurprisingly, most graduates go into roles within the computer industry. As always, it's extremely beneficial to have completed relevant work experience. You should also consider compiling a portfolio of your own independent projects outside of your degree, which could be in the form of programming, moderating online or even building an app. This will demonstrate to employers your interest in the subject and your problem-solving skills, creativity and initiative.

Course Overview

The program is problem and project based, utilizing the languages, tools and methods of computing best practices. Graduates gain significant exposure to team-based software development through industry-driven projects. This major is eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program at the following location: Polytechnic campus. Students from Western states who select this major and campus may be eligible for reduced nonresident tuition at a rate of 150 percent of Arizona resident tuition plus all applicable fees. Academic Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements Freshmen must have a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"=4.00) from a secondary school. Transfer students must have a minimum 2.50 GPA (a "C+" or better where "A"=4.00) from a college or university. Some ASU programs require a minimum transfer GPA of 3.00, including the W. P. Carey School of Business and Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. Some ASU programs may have higher admission requirements and may require a minimum ACT or SAT score. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
