Career Opportunities

In terms of the different jobs you can do, military sciences are pretty broad. You will probably choose to take either the theoretical route or the technical route, depending on what floats your boat/submarine/destroyer/aircraft carrier. If you want to get into the theory side of things, you will effectively be working in what's known as military intelligence . Yep, that's right you might be doing a similar job to that of Neil Patrick Harris in Starship Troopers. You could look into becoming a military theorist or researcher, where you d be focusing your efforts on military tactics, strategies and administration. This is all about being a logical thinker! Alternatively, you could be working as an engineer or laboratory technician. You might be designing weapons, military vehicles, radar systems, handheld communication devices and other military paraphernalia. There's also a huge educational branch of military sciences, which a lot of people choose to get into. Everyone has to learn their knowledge from somewhere and unfortunately watching hours and hours of Dad's Army or M*A*S*H can only do so much. If you have a passion for passing your knowledge on to other people, you could seek work as a military science instructor. These guys work for universities or army training academies and educate the new crop of military scientists and officers.

Course Overview

A Master of Criminal Justice (MCJ) from Boston University's Metropolitan College will give you a competitive edge whether you plan to enhance your career, teach, apply to law school, or pursue a doctorate. Degree candidates will take courses in which they will analyze criminal behavior, apply principles of leadership in organizational settings, learn theories of social control, and gain an informed perspective of law enforcement, the judicial system, and corrections. Ever-evolving and often misunderstood, crime and justice issues are complex and important areas of public policy. The on-campus Master of Criminal Justice (MCJ) program accommodates students on both a part- and a full-time basis. The program includes a variety of academically challenging courses, which are primarily offered in the evenings in the fall, spring, and two summer semesters. By participating in the program, students will gain insight into cybercriminology and the legal practices, practical digital investigative knowledge, and policies related to cybersecurity risk assessment. In addition, going beyond understanding practical and essential knowledge of cybercrime and cybersecurity, students who successfully complete the concentration are eligible to take the forensic examiner exams. Online students pursuing a Concentration in Cybercrime Investigation & Cybersecurity must take the following concentration requirements. (four courses/16 credits) MET CJ 610 Cybercrime MET CJ 710 Applied Digital Forensic Investigation MET CS 684 IT Security Policies and Procedures MET CS 693 Digital Forensics Additional Information A maximum of two graduate courses (up to 8 credits) in criminal justice may be transferred from another accredited institution for credit toward the degree. No credit is allowed for courses used to fulfill another degree, and all transfer credit requires program approval. Up to two courses taken at Boston University outside the criminal justice program may be applied to the degree, with prior approval of the department chair. A maximum of two criminal justice courses (8 credits) taken at Metropolitan College prior to acceptance into the degree program may be applied toward the degree. The courses must be graduate level, with a grade of B (3.0) or higher. Minimum passing grade for a course in the graduate program is C, but a grade average of B (3.0) must be maintained to satisfy degree requirements.

Academic Entry Requirement

Candidates for admission to the degree program are selected in part on the basis of transcripts of academic background, academic and personal references, career experience, and interviews or statements of intent. There are no fixed application deadlines. The program allows for students to submit applications on a rolling basis. Admission decisions are announced promptly, pending receipt of all application materials. Students can also register and take two courses prior to applying to the degree program.
