Course Overview

The school nurse also influences the health and well-being of families, communities and school district faculty and staff. Well prepared school nurses are critical to the health of our society. The credential/concentration provides quality advanced practice education that emphasizes development of safe and effective school health care providers for a diverse population of children and families through acquisition of knowledge and skills that are commensurate with current evidence. Faculty are dedicated to preparing school nurses as advanced practitioners with skills to address the complex and unique role of the school nurse and with a strong foundation in school health care research, theory and practice. This foundation prepares the professional school nurse to facilitate positive responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning (NASN, June 1999). Academic Entry Requirement

You need the following GPA score: Required score: 3 Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale). Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F). Active, unrestricted, California RN license with no disciplinary action pending or imposed Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) or a related field from a regionally accredited institution Minimum cumulative GPA or last 60 semester unit GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale Prerequisite Courses: Upper-division Statistics completed with a "C" or better If bachelor's degree is in a field other than Nursing, Community Health Nursing completed with a "C" or better. Regardless of citizenship, all applicants whose native language is not English must submit proof of English proficiency before an admissions decision can be made.
