Career Opportunities

Students who earn a a degree in child and family studies can find a variety of social work-related opportunities. Career opportunities are available in research and teaching, including job titles such as human sciences professor, child advocate, grief counselor and youth outreach coordinator. Graduates with a degree in food and nutrition can pursue a wide variety of career options as dieticians, nutritionists, food research technicians and educators. While most programs are designed to train educators in the field of consumer sciences, graduates may be prepared for a number of additional job opportunities in social services and social services administration. Job titles for human science degrees also might include: Social services program director Human services coordinator Nutritionist Child welfare worker Program developer Family advocate

Course Overview

This degree has two options. The Occupational Education emphasis is for students who plan to enter an occupation that requires specific occupation training, are seeking career advancement, personal enrichment, or are considering a pre-professional plan. The Certification emphasis is for students seeking to be CTE certified teachers at the secondary level by completing a degree in a CTE teachereducation program. We offer this degree as part of Northern Arizona University's Extended Campuses program. All CTE requirements are offered in the online format. Law-enforcement professionals only have the option of a Phoenix cohort. Academic Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements If you have earned an AGEC Certification from a regionally accredited community college in Arizona, then you have satisfied the Northern Arizona University Liberal Studies requirement and the Northern Arizona University diversity requirement for this degree. Students who have not earned an AGEC must complete all Liberal Studies requirements and diversity requirements before graduation. 1. Complete an online application Complete the online application. If you do not have a LOUIE account, you will be asked to create one. 2. Pay the $50 application fee You will be required to pay the application fee while completing your online application. If you submit your application via regular mail, please send the deposit in the form of a check, money order, or any other traceable form of currency. Cash is not accepted. 3. Submit your official transcripts Send official transcripts for all secondary and post-secondary/university education. All transcripts/mark sheets must be submitted in English.
